Getting to the beach: The only way to get to Sarakiniko is by scooter, car, ATV, or by hiking. No public transport is available.
The most magical of all beaches in Milos is Sarakoniko beach. Also known as the ‘moon beach’, walking here feels surreal.
Sarakiniko has a unique geological profile that makes it one of the most impressive natural locations you will get to visit in Greece. The beach is located 5 km away from Plaka, on the east coastline of Adamas, in the northeastern part of the island.
The scenery of Sarakiniko is impressive, with its long, white, smooth rocks with horizontal layers creating unique shapes around the sea. It is considered the island’s trademark.
Sarakiniko was named after the Saracen pirates, who would allegedly use the caves and tunnels as a hiding place for themselves and their treasures.
Note that there are no tourist facilities at all. So if you plan to spend a few hours, bring snacks, drinks, sunblock, and any other necessities.
Plan to visit Sarakiniko in the early morning or late afternoon if you want to take pictures.

Kleftiko Beach

Keep in mind that amenities like restrooms, chair rentals, or food vendors are not available, so you have to bring your own. Your boat tour provider should be able to give the bare necessities.
In spite of this, Kleftiko Beach is a must-see when you’re visiting Milos.
Thiorichia Beach (Old Sulfur Mines)
Getting to the beach: You can reach the beach by car or bus. Or by booking a guided tour.
Thiroichia Beach is not only a natural attraction, but it is also a historical site. The site has sulfur mines which are called ‘Theioryhia’ in Greek. They are located on the east coast of the island, and they can be accessed by car, bus, or guided tour.
Historically, sulfur mining has always been linked to activities in the Cyclades. These sulfur mines were lucrative and rich in minerals.
Today you can see these mines as soon as you reach the Beach. The striking red rocks and yellow pebbles say it all. The color of the rocks is due to the sulfur.

Firiplaka or Firiplaka Beach is located on the southern side of Milos Island.
When beach hopping, you can easily make a stop here, as it is situated between the beaches of Provatas and Tsigrado. Firiplaka is one of the most popular beaches on the island. It is absolutely gorgeous with volcanic cliffs, fine sand and white pebbles, and of course, the endless views of the turquoise waters.
It is easy to find amenities here, and you can even rent umbrellas and sunbeds during summer season.
Alogomandra Beach
Getting to the beach: Alogomandra beach lies between Sarakiniko beach and Papafragas beach, a 15-minute drive from Adamantas and Plaka. You can reach it by car or bus.
Alogomandra beach is easily accessible by public transport. However, it is very much overlooked by visitors to Milos as there are other beaches on the list. But I recommend taking the time to explore this gorgeous beach.
This secluded beach is long, with fine sand, and is surrounded by peculiar rock arches making it like a cave of sorts.
You can swim, snorkel, take in views and soak up the sun at the beach here! Plus it is located near a fishing port, so you will find some basic amenities there.
Plathiena Beach
Getting to the beach: You can get there by car, a yacht, or a sea taxi.
Plathiena is a small beach in Milos. It is a sandy beach, surrounded by cliffs.
It is located not too far away from the island’s capital Plaka. And is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the views of the surrounding mountains.
This sandy beach has pebbles near it, so exercise caution as you get closer to the waters. You will find a restaurant in the vicinity for food and drinks.
Tsigrado Beach
Getting to the beach: You can get there by car, bus, or ATV. It is about 11.7 km (7.3 miles) from Adamas.
Tsigrado beach is a small and intimate beach located in a cove. It’s a great spot for swimming, snorkeling, and simply taking in the stunning scenery.
Although it is very pretty, the reason Tsigrado is not super crowded is due to its accessibility. You can only get there by climbing down a ropeway.
Plus there are no facilities on the beach, so you have to walk 15-20 minutes to get to the nearest restaurant.
Having said that, the beach view is stunning, and many travelers just snap a photo from above without getting down (so that’s an option as well).
The beach is located on the southern side of the island and can be accessed by bus from Adamas.
Papafragas Beach (and caves)
Getting to the beach: You can get to the beach by car, ATV, or scooter.
Papafragas Beach is a secluded bay area that is perfect for those who want to escape the crowds and enjoy some peace and tranquility.
The clear waters are great for swimming, and there are plenty of areas to sunbathe on.
To get to the beach you have to get down via a set of steep stairs cut into the cliffside.
Do check the conditions prior to getting down to the beach area. Now the beach lies inside a cave-like structure.
The water is crystal clear and you can wade in the shallow waters close to the shoreline or swim out through to explore sea caves and secluded coves.
It is one of the most picturesque beaches on the island, and worth making a trip to Papafragas.
This beach is located on Milos’s northern coastline about a 5-minute drive from Pollonia or a 15-minute drive from Adamas.
Gerakas Beach
Getting to the beach: The beach is only accessible by boat. Or by a guided tour.
Gerakas Beach is one of the busiest beaches in Milos, but it’s still worth a visit! The water here is crystal clear, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
The long stretch of sand is perfect for sunbathing.
Unfortunately, no facilities are available on the beach, but if you are booking a tour, you will find food, and a washroom if you need some refreshments.
Agios Ioannis beach
Getting to the beach: The beach is located on the western side of Milos and is accessible by car.
Agios Ioannis Beach is a nice secluded beach on Milos. It is perfect to enjoy some isolation and amazing views of the area. The water is clean for a swim. The beach is located just below a monastery of the same name.
Note that there are no tourist facilities on this beach, so remember to pack some snacks, sunscreen, and other day trip essentials.
Pachaina Beach
Getting to the beach: The best way to get there is by car. From Adamas, it is about 7 km away.
Pachaina Beach is located on the northeastern side of Milos and is known for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters.
It is a secluded beach, and never super crowded.
You can enjoy a nice dip in the clear waters, but keep in mind that it has stones/pebbles in it. Wearing water shoes is a good idea when visiting Pachaina Beach in Milos.
Visitors can find a number of small, local tavernas along the beach where they can enjoy traditional Greek dishes while taking in the stunning view.
There is accommodation available nearby in Pachaina Milos, a tourist resort located on the north coast of Milos Island.
Milos Beach Trip Packing List: The Essentials
Beach days are the best days. But before you can enjoy the sun, sand, and surf, you have to actually get to the beach in Milos.
And that means packing everything you need for a fun and relaxing day (or week!) by the water. Not sure what to bring? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. So here are some of the beach packing tips.
The first thing you’ll need is a good beach bag. Something big enough to fit all your stuff, but not so big that it becomes a nuisance to lug around. A beach bag with a zipper is always a good idea, to prevent sand from getting in and ruining everything.
Next up is sunscreen. No matter what time of year it is, if you’re going to be spending time in the sun, you need to wear sunscreen!
Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher for optimal protection. Don’t forget to reapply every two hours, or more often if you’re swimming or sweating.
Of course, you’ll also need a swimsuit (or two!). Whether you prefer a one-piece or bikini, make sure your suit is comfortable and fits well. You don’t want to be pulling at your swimsuit all day long!

Thick, fluffy beach towels will make all the difference when it comes to drying off after a dip in the ocean or pool. Plus, they’re great for lounging on the sand. You can also buy a sand-free towel to take with you!
- Water bottle and snacks: As many of the beaches are secluded with no amenities, water and snacks are essential for your beach trip! And remember to stay hydrated.
- Any gear: Pack camera gear, snorkeling, or any other gadgets to keep yourself entertained at the beach (books, ebooks, music, etc)

When to Visit Milos

The busiest time of year is July and August when Greek families take their summer vacations.
If you want to avoid the crowds, September and October are still nice months to visit with milder temperatures.
