I couldn’t leave the island of Borneo without ge I couldn’t leave the island of Borneo without getting a hand-poked tattoo, something that had been on my wishlist for a while. Borneo has a rich traditional tattoo culture, making it the perfect place to bite the bullet. I got a hornbill inked on my arm and two finger tattoos (by far the most painful ones). Boy, the tattoo artist, was born and raised in the Entalau longhouse in Sarawak and learned the craft from his grandfather. There was an extra person present to stretch my skin during the session, and honestly, if he hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have made it through 🫠 I would’ve definitely pulled my arm back multiple times because of the pain. Two hours later, it was all done, and I’m super happy with both the service and the result! You do walk out without any aftercare or wrap though, only with the reassuring words: “No worries, it’ll heal in a week…” Well, let’s see about that.
